What is a Concentration:
Students will choose a subject that they would like to explore in great depth. The subject they choose will NOT change throughout the year but be studied through creating a series of works. Once they have chosen a subject, like self portraiture, they will then draw, photograph, or digitally design a series of works that explores their subject. Students will be expected to complete one concentration every two weeks. At the end of the course the students should have 16 completed concentrations. Concentrations are a strict independent study and will be done at home.

Concentration Development Statement
Below is a generic statement to help you develop a foundationary idea:
My concentration will explore the idea of____________(portraiture, cars, literary stories, etc...) through the use of________(lights, colors, abstraction etc...). I will use various______(models, positions, line qualities, angles) to explore my idea.

Concentration Example:
Here is a series of works by Mondrian that the chairperson prepared to show the progression from the more figurative (representational) paintings to the more abstract (nonrepresentational) paintings. Observe the evolution from the early works of 1909 to the later works of the 1930's. Look at how the image of a tree progresses from the top left image to the bottom right image. Ask yourself how did Mondrian get from one to the other. We are not looking for this big of a change from the beginning of your work to the end but a concentration should evolve throughout the course of the year.

Information about the AP Exam:
Resizing:
Open documents in Photoshop. once the documents are opened, go to the image size setting located under image in the menu bar. opening up image size will allow you to adjust your images to the proper size for the exam.
Size restrictions: 3mb or less
Min - 480x 480 pixels
Max - 530x 780 pixels
Final questions:
1. What is the central idea of your concentration? (500 characters max)
Sample:
The nature of my concentration is the Brooklyn Bridge in Brookly, New York. The concentration shows different views and contrasting angles of the brigde. The pieces progress from real perceptions of the bridge to more surreal complex backgrounds and borders, that highlight the bridge itself.
2. How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples. When referring specific images, please indicate the image number. ex. Slide 1 (1350 character max).
Sample:
The development of my concentration started with a classic view of the bridge (Image 1). Images 2-7 show different angles of the historic bridge and in some cases, such as image 4 , an overall tone is set for a certain angle of the bridge. Images 8-9 focused on patterns and oriented angles of the bridge, while the final 3 images show a surreal contrasting view of the previous pieces. These final 3 show how these certain angles can be interpreted differently, by using contrasting colors and surreal concepts.
